California's Central Coast wine region spans from San Francisco Bay Area in the north to the Santa Barbara County in the south. The Central Coast AVA is defined by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Mountain ranges open to the ocean and allow the cool sea air and fog to flow into the coastal valleys and their vineyards. A moderate climate, combination of foggy mornings, midday sun and afternoon breezes gives a longer growing season and slow, even ripening of the grapes.
